The guided bone regeneration technique is supported by the appropriate choice of barrier membranes. The balance between timed barrier function and space maintenance properties seems to be of crucial importance. The pericardium collagen membranes are already a gold standard for long-term barrier faction, but do we enjoy the removal of titanium meshes? Luckily a new generation of biodegradable metal is already available that doesn’t need removal.

Program Highlights

The NOVAMag® Regeneration System is a synthetic and mechanically strong, but fully bioresorbable biomaterial that is replaced by natural bone over time. It thus offers dentists completely new treatment options. The NOVAMag® regeneration family consists of the NOVAMag® membrane and the NOVAMag® fixation screw and was developed for augmentation procedures in the alveolar ridge. The NOVAMag® membrane is a magnesium membrane and the NOVAMag® fixation screw is a set of magnesium fixation screws in different sizes that can be used for both barrier membrane and bone block fixation. Among different applications, a new technique, the magnesium shield technique is presented, which allows any clinician to get the maximum out of a socket preservation in case of missing buccal bone. Due to its unique features, the NOVAMag® product line offers a minimally invasive approach for patients, as the implants do not need to be removed in a second procedure. Therefore, it is also a very safe technique in comparison to non-resorbable membranes. In addition, this also reduces chair time for the dentist. This is a win-win situation for everyday clinical practice.

Agenda

Guided bone regeneration

Sunday 27 July 2025

9:30
Registration & Welcome

10:00
Lecture (90 minutes, allowing for a 45-minute lecture with translation) Intelligent grafting procedures from socket preservation to GBR procedures part I

11:30
Morning Tea

11:45
Lecture (90 minutes, allowing for a 45-minute lecture with translation) Intelligent grafting procedures from socket preservation to GBR procedures part II

13:15
Lunch

14:00
Socket Shield technique (Hands-on) 1 hour could be too much. The procedure is very simple. I would reduce to 45 minutes and add 15 minutes to the GBR session

15:00
Afternoon Tea

15:30
GBR Techniques including Novamag (Hands-on). Ok with pig’s jaw. Of course I’ll be willing to do it….with pig’s jaw!!!

16:30
Q&A / Review

Learning outcomes

  • Magnesium properties – Science behind magnesium as a biomaterial
  • How do I fix it? – Stabilizing the different materials with NOVAMag® screws
  • Multiple grafting technique – what to look out for, and what´s easier to start with? Understand the importance of shield technique and GBR
  • Being able to detect the critical numbers for bone and mucosa health
  • Understand the importance of the peri-implant tissues
  • Evaluate the surgical alternatives to boost the peri-implant tissues
